Maryvale PTA Needs You!

The Maryvale PTA is facing a crisis. The PTA Executive Board consists of the: President, Executive Vice President, Vice President of Programs, Vice President of Fundraising, Secretary, Treasurer, 2 MCCPTA Delegates, Volunteer Coordinator, Communications Chair, and the School Principal.

The nominees for next year’s Board are:

We need your help!  Please consider volunteering for one of the open positions, or nominating a fellow parent, friend, or grandparent you think could do a good job in that role.   Click read more » below to see the position descriptions.  PTA members do not need to be parents, they just need to be concerned about our school.

VP, Akoss Schuppius at aschuppius@comcast.net, or any of the other current Board Members if you have any questions about the positions.  The minimum requirements for filling an open position are monthly attendance at PTA meetings, responsiveness by email/phone to requests from fellow Board members, and probably a minimum of 3 hours of PTA-related activities.

Please consider being part of this important group at Maryvale – Volunteer or nominate someone for one of the positions below.

PRESIDENT – The President is responsible for conducting and running the monthly executive board and general meetings. Prepares the agenda and ensures the meetings are run as smoothly and efficiently as possible. Approves expenditures, adopts budget, and approves all other activities and programs.  In addition, the President consults with the school principal on all matters relating to the school and also communicates to the administration issues or concerns that parents bring to his/her attention. 

EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT – The Executive Vice President may be called upon at any time to assume temporarily the place of the president.  Presides over the meetings in the absence of the president and acts as aide to the president and assumes responsibility for duties assigned by the president and represents the president upon request.

VP OF PROGRAMS – The VP of Programs is responsible for reviewing and overseeing the scheduling and execution of PTA sponsored projects.

VP OF FUNDRAISING – The VP of Fundraising determines and oversees all fund raising activities of school year.  The VP is required to develop a plan and schedule for the year’s fundraising activities that is presented at the first PTA Executive Board Meeting.  Review the past year’s fundraising activities and evaluate which ones were successful; research and evaluate new fundraising opportunities.

COMMUNICATIONS CHAIR – The Communications Chair is responsible for sending out mass e-mails notifications from the PTA, contacting PTA board members and committee chairs to request submissions for the monthly newsletter. Assist President with ConnectEd message as needed.

VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR -The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for recruiting parent volunteers for special school and PTA events and/or projects. The Coordinator works closely with our other PTA committees to assess their volunteer needs. The Coordinator also helps to broadcast volunteer needs to the parent community.

(Non-Board Member positions, but still very important:)

MEMBERSHIP CHAIR – The Membership Chair is responsible for promoting PTA to parents, teachers and community members and asking them to join as general members

CULTURAL ARTS CHAIR – Cultural Arts brings artists, musicians and performers for school assemblies. The Cultural Arts Committee/Chair researches and books the artists for the assemblies. To gain ideas about potential performers, the Cultural Arts Committee attends Showcases in Rockville in the fall (there are 4 non-consecutive weekdays of showcases). Volunteers will coordinate publicity, use of facilities and greet artists when they arrive for the performance, and arrange for payment with the PTA Treasurer
